comox fb page reports he flew his kite under the power lines, crossing the road. Big no-no there, in preserving access (not to mention the danger to the kiter ....ZZZZAAAAPPPPP  )[/url]

Typically if there is an issue within a community its appreciated when that person is contacted directly, maybe even in person! Somewhat unprofessional if you do claim to be "maintaining a local kite spot"

I'll copy the same reply...

"I'm sorry to have caused such an upset, didn't realize it was a main concern. I would not have done it if I didn't feel it was safe for me and the local crew, had very stable wind and plenty of clearance. I completely understand local access issues and apologize for putting the crew at risk. Won't happen again. Thanks for maintaining such an amazing SE spot."

OK, everyone calm down.

Denham gave me a call this morning to talk it over. He is a clearly a stand-up guy, a responsible and respectful kiter. He wasn't fully aware of the tenuous nature of kiting access at the spit, and just made a small error.

So forgive ( who hasn't made a mistake - we ALL do ) and move on - great opportunity to remind everyone of what to do to preserve kiting access at Goose spit.

If you are kiting in the Goose lagoon and want to hit the outside, land your kite, wind your lines, and ask around for someone to launch you out in front of the cadet base. Locals or regulars not scrambling to rig and get out are always happy to lend a hand.

More information can be had at the BWD wiki for Goose Spit - http://www.bigwavedave.ca/wiki/index.php/Comox_Spit - will have to add a note there about making the transition from lagoon to outside.

Holy crap, clearance or not isn't that crazy sketchy to do? I mean a little gust here, or you trip on a rock and yank your bar there... and ZAP! That guy has balls of steel.

Maybe they are balls of rubber so he is not worried about being electrocuted.
