Nitinat, how much does it cost you to drive?
Nitinat, how much does it cost you to drive?
Thinking about a Nitinat trip, so worked out my fuel cost:
1. take the RV = $150.00 return
2. take the Toyota Echo = $34.00 return
Don't worry, won't take the rv, but some interesting numbers!
This doesn't include breakfast on the way etc.
Of course the total expense for a Nitinat trip doesn't matter because it is PRICELESS!!

Fuel?? If that was all, heck, it's just a few more $$. My Moho cost:Martin wrote:Thinking about a Nitinat trip, so worked out my fuel cost:

$200 I am guessing now.
Well, over the years I've encountered a few other minor "cost" issues traveling to Nirvana Lake, they are kind of fun to think about now as I drive the paved road to Gordon's:
-broken leaf spring on trailer $100
-Labor $all weekend to install it, drive into town to get parts $gas, mechanically inclinded buds using up all of life's credits- priceless
-2 flat tires repaired locally $20ea & 1/2 afternoon of sailing missed
or -1 destroyed tire $200, inflating the flat spare borrowing pump from local camper- 2 beers
-one destroyed hubcap rendering the unmatchable other 3 useless, $130
-getting forced off the road by a mondo logging truck .....well, a lot...
-getting a rock embedded in the new windshield from a "safety first" 150km/hr driver from Hayes, $300 deductible and an afternoon with no vehicle
-dust inside trailer/moho cuz the vent lid/door seal/bottom storage lid/ storage cabinet cover/fridge vent/ window lock/any other closure items on the vehicle.... let go on the washboards, 3 hrs wiping everything down (x probably 6 or 7), fewer days of a working stereo cassette deck or CD player, gritty sheets and toast
-6 exploded beers and one gallon of milk over RV floor when fridge door opened despite 2 locks= 6 beers, a gallon of milk, 1 morning fixing fridge door instead of having breakfast in the sun
-one chaffed through board deck where a downhaul rubbed all the way through stuff when piling on other stuff = one epoxy repair that didn't take in the lake humidity, no sailing one day, one more repair in the sun for another lost breakfast
-one fried RV battery when the mounts let go, $100 and no power in the trailer for the weekend
-one trailer window from kicked up rocks, $50
-salty sail surfaces scratching monofilm into bathroom glass on the gravel road - steady few sails and smokin' the guy beside you cuz ya can't see
There's probably a few more items if you think about that road and the distance to sail flat water but, hey, it is a wonderful miraculous place...just getting even a wee bit less accessible now with the gas prices but it means more open spots I guess

How about weld on trailer hitch that I had fashioned on the back of my old trailer breaking; losing 4 bikes + rack .....not realizing mess was missing til I was way past Lake Cowichan and having a leak. Driving all way back around Lake Cowichan looking for carnage, without luck. Only to find some good samaritan had picked up everything and taken it to Lake Cowichan RCMP. One broken pedal damage.
