BWD Site Fundraiser: KA Sails Auction

Post by KUS »

Hi everyone- I was going to offer a brand new sail to Dave in exchange for some marketing on the site and to raise some $$ for it. Now: he's busy, would rather have the cashola, and do as little work as possible. Soooo does anyone have a brilliant idea on how we can collect on this thing?

I figure an online auction would be cool but I also want to have Dave get more than $10  as I wonder how I can make it palatable to a large audience as well as expose the most viewers to the bidding process. (BTW Ebay is not an option)

As an idea: I can list 3 sail sizes and types and 2005, 2006 and 2007 sails (all new). I can set a minimum bid for each depending on what it is. The highest bid for any sail buys that sail with:
with the proceeds going to the site for advertisement payment and anything over $310 as a donation by www.KAsail.com / www.Windsurfdeal.com :!: :!:
(I can also do this with other products but let's focus on the sails for now)

Perhaps Dave could put the most recent bid on the homepage and the thread can show who bid on what? Although that would mean more work for Dave which is what he's trying to avoid.

Anyway, looking for feedback or better ideas 8)

would an online raffle work? Rather than an auction. 1 ticket for $15 or 2 for $25 or something like that. Could we somehow use the online donation method so we don't have to have people go somewhere to pick up a ticket.

Maybe there is someone out there that could put together a random number generator that could select the winner ticket number? I think that is a 1st year computer science project.

I would buy a ticket or two if it meant $20 or $30 dollars but I would likely not bid $100's on something that I don't really need.

Thoughts?

If Dave could assign a unique confirmation # to an online donation, that could work.

Kus, could it rather be a voucher towards the piece of equipment of your choice?

It would probably be easy enough to place names of every buyer in a hat and do a draw, one name for every $20 or something like that 8) I think to make it worthwhile we'd need to have at least 18 tickets sold, kinda like a reserve.

Good idea. Right now I have only sails for this effort, I can put up three different ones and the winner can choose. Perhaps other gear can be auctioned off at a different time.

Choose from brand new:

2007 Freeride 5.9 Koyote (Red) - super light & fast, rotates like a dream
2007 Freeride 6.6 Koyote (Orange) - as above, rigs on a 430!!
2006 Wavesail 5.3 Kaos (Red or Neon Yellow) - indestructible, disappears on the wave

Is that you Kus?

Yah if we did a reserve type of thing like you said and then had people donate via the donate function and say in the notes that it is for the sail lottery we would be in business.

I totally could use another sail...maybe a 5.9? I'm becoming a gear pig!

Does that sound okay to you BWD?

Notification, payment

Post by KUS »

Yup, me at Kook this aft, a bit nippy in shorts but worth it  Nice webcam pic, that new zoom really rocks :!:

MTM- The idea would be to send Dave the $$, mail or PayPal, $20 you get a ticket, $35 for 2, $50 for 3, $100 for 7. Mark it "KA BWD fundraiser". Makes the donating more exciting, doesn't it? I will update this thread to confirm your bid/tickets and keep it alive 8)

Dave or myself will set a closing date once we have the "reserve" met and do the draw at the beach with witnesses :P
1st Bid: MortonToeMike $____ Ticket #____

Hey Kus, very generous of you! And timely since several people seem to need new sails! Didn't see a place in paypal to leave the note, I'll PM you.

nice gesture except you're excluding a major portion of bwd users ... doubt if any kiters would want a windsurf sail

Kus and I spoke about this, hence my previously edited post.

He would like to keep it just KA for now, which is totally fair seeing as he is putting up he prize and it is his idea. I personally think that it is a win,win situation for both KA and BWD.

However, he did mention something about a harness?

We can do a kiting specific fundraiser ( do I smell challenge) once this one has run it's course.
