Took a long lunch and headed to Clover. It was quiet there with lots of parking. I setup and self launched and headed to the windward side of the point. It was fully high tide and really gnarly at the bottom of the ramp. The were big breakers on the reef and further up the beach a lot of full sized logs rolling around and getting pushed right up to the high tide line. It was so dodgy. I went in at the bottom of the ramp up to my waist and sized up the idea of going out that way. I realized that I would only have one chance to get it right and if I didn't, I would be pushed onshore right where all the logs were rolling around. So I decided to walk up the beach to a clear area. It was the lessor of two evils but was also super dodgy with me having to wait till an ebb and then scoot along before the next big shore break pushed the logs up to the top of the beach. Happily, the wind was consistent and held no surprises to make the walk even more difficult. Eventually, I got out on the water and it was a fantastic session with clean steady wind and the water was mostly free of kelp and debris. I tried a couple tack turns but no luck. I had some lovely powered gybes and the wind was south enough to make the session very pleasant. It was sunny and not especially cold. When I came in the tide had begun to ebb and the shoreline was more subdued making coming ashore easy. I self-landed, changed into dry clothes and had mostly put my gear aware before any other kiters showed up. A Dad and three young (20-ish) kiters began to setup. As I was driving away, I saw Larry walking to the point for a session. Glad to get out, it has been only 3 weeks but it seems like much longer than that. I am chuffed!
