Nice to have an early morning session rather than the usual end of day racing the sunset! Launched just before 9am with GregCan, MtnarG, and Bobson. It took a while to get out to the wind, but I finally got up and joined dawn patrollers Kalen, Tweezer and Gus. For the first hour I rode with a blue shim (0.5 degree) for the first time ever -- I was surprised at how much looser everything felt. TnT, Docker, Rupert, Ang and a few others soon joined the fun. After a quick break I took the shim out, relaunc ... (more)

Wind mostly did what models suggested. Limited wave action on inside due to high tide and mediocre wind but a few nice swells to play on outside. Good to see all the local gang up there. More please.

What Winddoc calls fun was a super humbling session for me, but a great experience. Nice to play in waves, felt a bit like a washing machine near Frank Island. Surfer's right was much cleaner/bigger but just did not have the skill to flag out and surf, was simply trying to 'stay on foil', which was way easier said than done (either over foiling or burying a rail all session). Need more time and experience with waves like that.

SUPER fun session at SC with Doug and Bougie (who left 30 min after I got on the water). Challenging but great. Trick was to not rip down the line too far or you'd run over the wing. If you carved hard back to windward going right, you could set up for a nice bottom turn/cutback for a few turns before kicking out. First wave session on the 880 and it absolutely rips. Tons of wing out bottom turns with no drama. Sailed until dusk. YEW!!!

What a ride. Outside at Pt.Holmes.

Went from just a tickle of wind, to howling gale within the space of literally minutes.

First time I've been out front in the waves overpowered on the 5m - would have liked to come in for the 4m, but absolutely no way I'd get back out again.

Spent the whole session on that thin edge of hero to zero - one minute in control ( barely) having a blast, to way overpowered, slightly scared, and just along for the ride.

Slightly pleased with myself the exit wasn't carnage, ... (more)

Well, to misquote a famous person- not my finest hour!

Hoped to try out front, instead of the Spit fishbowl- not the best idea.

Maytagged several times trying to get out past the surf. Expensive too, since my gps watch was apparently too embarrassed to watch the process, and abandoned ship into the water:-(

Even once out, the "fun" continued, as my harness hook had slacked a bit, so i either struggled to clip in, or worse, couldn't unclip when i wanted (needed) to.

Did eventually have some fun ... (more)

A brief session with the windsurfers at Centenniel. A bit much, even with 3m, hard to hold it down. Weed on the foil and worry about changing wind direction, called it. Also had a leash malfunction and lost my board for 5mins...bit of a pucker moment. In the afternoon, clearing westerly at Spanish Banks looked SOOO good after the foggy rainy ugly morning...but was not to be.

After a difficult Cad Bay attempt, I followed GregCan to PB and found some reasonable conditions that matched my low skill/risk averse level. Joined by a group of like-minded OGs including MtnarG, Ben, JohnK, GMan, and a foiler from Kimberley. Tough to get in the water with the stiff onshore winds, so I chose my smaller 6m. Easily got up once past the long shallows, but quickly OP'd the further out I got. Stayed closer in and had a great time shreddin' with the OGs. PB rocks for me!

Huge day on Whidbey. Way too much for my rusty skills on the west side, retreated to the cove. Massively overpowered on the 4.2/105, should have brought the old school 3.7/85 combo and even that would have been a lot.

Had a couple great jumps then saw it starting to blow smoke and decided I was done.

Waited for the "lull". Got going about 1:30 as it was 62knots at Ogden Pt around 11:30!! Went with the small foil and teeny 2.5m wing, still way too much at times and others a bit under. Wind was holy shit gusty and shifty and blasty. Waves were XXXL. If you ventured anywhere outside the bay it was just another level of amped up. Quite a lot of brave souls on the sea considering the conditions (about 12 of us throughout the day). Basically a lot of puckering and trying to relax (yah right!), many ... (more)

Note to self: do not use freshly Nikki-waxed dry suit in combination with 62 litres board in 25+ conditions; as the board will slip out from underneath when kneeling. It started out ok, but made the mistake of going out too far and falling in confused seas and I couldn't get going again. Humiliation complete.

A little nervous going out after watching Pepe do some big airs but turned out to be mostly fun with some fast rides and hard crashes. Mostly well overpowered on 3M with some gusts that nearly lifted me out of the water. Shout out to Tweezer and Rupp always looking out for the other guys.

Well that wasn't how I was expecting things to go. I was already dealing with a gear malfunction and a locked wrist. It was not the day to go out unless all systems were 100% and I evidently wasn't. Sinker was also the wrong choice. Ended up in the bottom of the bay which hasn't happened for a couple of years. Trashed my 1050, stab and fuselage on the rocks. Wing and Board came out untouched. Will be walking funny as a result of landing on blade edge of mast hard. Thanks to Tweezer and Rup for coming to ge ... (more)

    Hard sailing!

The plan was to sail across MB to Pat Bay and meet the OG's maybe mid-inlet. Rigged the 4.0 and swam a good 100m to catch a gust on a spotty Mill Bay. Rough close hauled to Whiskey Pt, broad reach towards Coal Point (Deep Cove) and a gusty downwinder to the Navy buoys. Didn't linger there too long in those variable winds. Shot back towards MB Ferry terminal. Took all points of sail and a swim to get back to my launch site.

    Let's do this again soon : ))

Perfect tide, sun out, lovely sandy bottom, foil heaven? Well, wind backed even more & despite CB registering 30 & small guys on 14.5 kites having a decent go, full 5.3, I felt I got 6 knots?? Foiled briefly 4x in many runs/slogs thru waves I could just barely stand up thru. That board sails horribly in light wind. At least I made all outside gybes.

    Pretty discouraging this foil biz

Waited out the switch, CB seemed big current & confused. So Dents was making 4.4 work here, so excitedly joined w/ 5.0/94. Ended in slog. 5.3/110 quick rerig, more slog holy shite! And those beauty small waves went to waste.

Both morning and afternoon died on me :( Big day big bummer, all cuz I didn't drive 5 hrs to JR??

Seconds. Drove around to White Rock East Beach after dawn patrol at Centennial and was treated to a carpet of pine needles and branches on Highway 99! It was windy on arrival and it ramped up even more while rigging! Jerry said, "It's nuking!!!" Rigged small stuff again (3.8/74) and had mixed results. A bit overpowered at first, but then it backed and got punchy here too. High tide made for a tricky launch for the kites. Some moments of fun but lots of bobbing around and walking gear along ... Curves. Got up at 5:30 am and Mike and Jens both beat me to the beach and were sailing when I arrived about 7:30 am. Well done! Jens said cold and gusty, but waves were great! Struggled in the punchy wind and crazy gusts, but in the end got a few rides in. Some really nice jumping ramps! The threat of the rotating wind and holes in the sky made for some nervousness and the crazy gusts (the sensor at Boundary Bay Airport was averaging 39 knots! The 3.8 felt WAY too big at times and then tomb stoned at ... (more)
