A frontal system will continue to work its way through the coastal waters this afternoon and tonight. The cold front will move through early tomorrow morning, quickly being replaced by high pressure during the day on Tuesday. Winds will ease Wednesday into Thursday. The next frontal system arrives Friday night into Saturday which looks to increase winds and may prompt another round of headlines during this time. A push of westerlies down the Strait of Juan de Fuca is expected behind the front during the day Tuesday into Tuesday night, for which a small craft advisory is in effect. Seas around 4 to 5 ft will increase tonight to around 6 to 8 ft by early Tuesday. Seas ease again Wednesday and Thursday back to 3 to 5 ft. Seas look to rise a bit with the next system Friday into Saturday but look to remain below 10 ft through the weekend. 62 (Issued: 301 PM PDT Mon Apr 28 2025 by NOAA)

  • Bellenas Island Weather seems to be reporting on the WeatherNetwork.  Perhaps the station has been fixed.  www.theweathernetwork.com/en/marine/ca/b...d-lighthouse/current

    • Hmm well Ballenas isn’t on the latest or the “not reporting” stations list anymore from what I can tell.  The tides table is also not displaying fully since yesterday:(

    • I don't know where TWN are getting their data. From the EC land station page Ballenas is not listed and the direct link to the site shows N/A which normally means the site is not updating. Also Kus confirmed below that "the estimated time to get station back online is by end of April."

    • Looks to me like the 'current' condition on TWN may be an interpolated model number. I still get a 'station not available' from the current conditions for Ballenas from Environment Canada Marine Weather Georgia Strait north of Nanaimo.

    • I see and agree More Force & BWD & Kus.  No data at present.    Ballenas Airport code is CWGB  and USNWS says last reported  Dec 31 2024    Data is likely interpreted from Sisters Isl.

(I gather its the same for the English Bay Bouy at the far West end of English Bay.)   No Data at present

  • How long have the little popups with stats and links been on here?  Day count since your last session, or a link to your windiest session ever (apparently Dec 23, 2010 for me, interesting read), most used bit of kit and other random things!  Its a fun addition!

  • “Downwinding”??
    1
    • Downwinding as in either SUP paddling up onto foil, and going DW or using a Parawing to get up onto foil and going DW with chute packed away then redeploying and doing laps back UW. This is all focused around chasing bumps going DW, not mowing the lawn/freeriding.

      • So windsurf wave riding is now down-winding, kiting or Sup ing downwind riding is also downwinding ….got it B)

  • “Thank you for sending your message to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

As per the latest update, the technician responsible for the Ballenas station is on leave. Trying to work on a solution to charge the station if coast guard unable to do so. The estimated time to get station back online is by end of April.

The Ballenas weather station has been defunct for almost four months and is key for nautical safety in our strait.  Can someone please repair?  I was told by DFO it belongs to coastguard. Coastguard tells me it's Environments.

  • SP cam is back up!

    • That’s fantastic Ray!!  I was just thinking how all 3 local cams have been lost as well as Ballenas WX, hopefully the latter will be fixed soon
