Hello everyone,
Elena is planning on organising a simple gathering in memory of our friend Andrei on Sunday, July 22. Weather permitting, it will take place at a nearby beach. If we have rain, the venue will be moved to a house. Stand by for further details.

Thanks for posting this Chris.
I'm working a 24 hour that day so standing by for the time so I can work on having a relief at work for the service.

Unfortunate date for me as I plan to leave town on the 19th for 2-3 weeks, perhaps something will change, if not I will be taking a quiet moment wherever I am....
our thoughts will be there

We will be en route to a windsurfing adventure in N Madagascar, I'm sure Andrei would approve of. We will think of the good and positive times we shared with our good friend, and carry his enthusiasm for all forward with us.
Best wishes,
The Fishes

From Elena:
"Dear friends, in the Orthodox faith Andrei and I belong to, certain
days after death are considered to have special significance: the
third day (on which the funeral is usually held), the ninth day, and
the fortieth day. On the ninth day, it is said that the soul has
finally reached the Throne of God and the period of weighing up of
one's sins and virtues begins, which continues until the fortieth day.
Of these three days, the fortieth is the most important, because on
the fortieth day, tradition teaches that the soul receives its
conditional judgement which remains in place until the Great Day of
Judgement at the end of time. The relatives and friends gather
together on those three days to celebrate the departed's life and
acknowledge their strengths and virtues beseeching God to be merciful
to the departed and give them a place of spiritual comfort in His
Presence.
Andrei's fortieth day falls on Monday, July 23rd, but considering the
time difference between Saint-Petersburg and Victoria (11 hours) it
would make more sense to get together Sunday, July 22 evening, just a
few hours before Andrei's family and friends get together in Russia.
Weather permitting, I suggest meeting on the beach off Cook street at
about 7 pm. All you need to bring is your memories of Andrei.
I would like to let you know that your support has been deeply
appreciated. Each message and photograph you posted has given a strong
sense of comfort and pride to Andrei's family and myself." - Elena
