VANCOUVER ISLAND WINDTALK

I was rigging up my 5.0 today and the extender strap that holds the mast top 'plug', tore off on one side.

Looking into the mast sleeve I can see frayed strap, but i can't see where exactly it tore off...and now i can't figure out how to repair it. If anyone could take a look at this photo and perhaps suggest a solution, I'd be very grateful.

For simplicity, I'd be happy to just forget the mast top extension and just sew the entire top shut--but I don't know where to get that done, and if that would even hold...any help appreciated.

are you sure it is torn? the strap looks rigged kind of strange, like you need to loop it back under or through something for the adjustment to work.

If you need some sewing done, that is a pretty heavy duty job as the luff tube needs to be opened up. Leitch and McBride in Sidney is the place normally recommended.

See that's the thing--i definitely messed something up with the way it's rigged--like you said, it might not even be torn. I'm just really clued out on how to loop it back together properly...

So think there was a smaller loop inside the mast sleeve that the strap would feed into and back out of, allowing for proper adjustment. I think I'm just going to have the whole top sewn up for simplicity.

if it rigs like my Simmer, the metal buckle should be anchored at the top of the luff. bummer! you have just 1.5 days till the next big blow!

I think you were right, Dave...from what I recall the metal buckle is anchored in to the top of the luff with a little fabric 'loop'. THe loop is what broke so I dropped it off at L&M, explaining the situation, and also mentioned how good the wind will be tomorrow, and wondered if they could have it done by the end of the day...they laughed at me

I really hope tomorrow doesn't call for 5.0 conditions--if so, I"ll be on the beach. Crying.
