I noticed my vent plug was AWOL yesterday, not sure for how long, but I suspect I forgot to tighten it properly post-maui. I know, bonehead move. I am betting there is some water still in there, aside from turning it upside down and leaving it to dry, any suggestions? Some water has definitely drained out of there already, maybe 25ml?

While I am at it, is there any compelling reason to worry about a little dent on the rail near the tip where the glass is cracked a bit? It's soft enough that it flexes under finger pressure but doesn't look like it penetrates into the foam. Must have happened yesterday while I was getting violated almost as bad as BWD in the shore break.

-place upside down for a few days, then
-deposit in sauna/furnace room with paper towel stuck in vent hole to increase surface area, hope for the best

-I wrap green masking tape around one strap with the plug in it and over the base. putting the plug it in the closed base can result in loss of plug in frenzy of rigging and not remembering it's in there

once it's as dry as it will get, use a kite pump to gently!!! pressurize the board to see if the rail is leaking....if it is water will bubble out of there....it'll be pretty obvious if you have a hole somewhere

It's not bad if you like heavy boards.

Adding to Kus' suggestion for evaluating your ding, put a little bit of soap/water solution on the outside before pumping. Works great. if you don't have a kite pump, cut the stem off an old innertube (Schreder) and use a std bike pump. A pump with a pressure gauge helps. Do not put too much pressure in there and go slow. Wipe excess soap off before taking the pump off.

The water will come out if you folow Kus' suggestion. Cycling the board from hot to cold will help move some air in and out of the board and with it moisture. More permanent damage to a board takes time. If you leave the water in there, then over time crap starts to grow and then the moisture and the weight will not come out easily.

You could compare the board weight to factory spec but these weights are not very reliable.

I think that the board lady has some suggestions on your issue.

The big issue with water in the board is that next time the board is baked in the sun with the vent closed (ie. on the roof rack in the Gorge in summer), the water vapor will possibly delam the board. Keep baking it with the vent open as Kus describes. It's not the end of the world unless the board is pounds heavier!

while the boards in the sun- you can tape some plastic over that nose crack, if it gets condensation you have water in there too.

I built a vac pump for pulling water out of boards..it works great- PM me if you need it. anyone else too, its a community resource.

Dave's pump is a thing of beauty.
Rupe Goldberg never had it so good. It worked really well for doing foamsandwich repair and now has a great liquid dropout sightglass for water removal. Just make sure you have the hi-tech exhaust filter in place or your basement will smell like compressor oil.
