Broken rib healing time?

So I broke my rib about 4 weeks ago(kiteloop-1 Marty-0) :?
It was only a single rib and it was not displaced.
The doctor said 4-6 wks but its pretty much my call, I should use pain as an indicator.
I have most of my strength and some flexibility, just get sharp pains when I tweak it the wrong way.
I dont plan on going out and hucking kiteloops in 40kn, just want to start off cruising.
Anyone else had a similar injury?
If so how long did it take and how did you get back into the game?

At least that long, roughly 8 weeks with some lingering issues.

Marty D's younger and he wasn't 'fried' in the transformer, so....he's probably good to get back at it (with no looping, or other wild moves) within the next 2 weeks or so, wouldn't ya think??

Definately, listen to your body, Marty, and gradually get back into it.

Did you purchase an impact vest yet?

It is rather batman armouresk
Im hoping to be on the water next weekend or the one after...but ill have to see what my torso says

a couple summers back i sailed with a seat harness for a while as a rib healed up on me. The waist harness caused a lot of pain squeezing the rib around before it could reglue itself in place. I recall it took about 2 months to get better.

if it beaks again it wont be any fun

The winds are gusty and this time of year my ribs hurt at the end of a session and they are not even broken.
Just be careful . Maybe use a seat harness for the winter?
when you do you kite loop you haver to stop the kite before you
crank on the bar. It gives you time to start traveling with the kite
and it when you do not resist to much . The power is a bit more forgiving.

I do have a seat harness so that should help out some.
Thanks for the advice AC, it is much appreciated :) .
I took a lesson early in the year to hone my kite and board skills. Once I was comfortable I started jumping and it has been pretty much trial and error since then. I def am not stopping the kite before looping :roll: . I send it then crank the bar and start the back roll right after I leave the water.
I have been trying to keep it as high as possible, but obviously there is more to it than that.
Any advice on looping is much appreciated as I do not want to break another rib :wink:

I cracked (didn't break clean through) 2 or 3 ribs a couple of years ago in a big SE at Willows. I think I waited about 4 weeks, then started gentle cruises in 15-20 knots. For a kite, I'm guessing 12-15 would be about similar conditions in terms of being powered? I remember the biggest chop hurting but the smaller stuff being fine - and I was in a waist harness. I'd plan on staying attached to the water for a bit if I was you...

I wont be airing for a long time, just want some cruising so I can get the feel and see where I am at.
Dont imagine there will be too many smooth 15-20kn days for a while anyway.

Flew the 8m at clover last night. :)
Pretty light, but able to fly the kite with no pain at all :D . The waist harness seems to be working out in my favour. Considered a ride when it picked up, but it wasnt very steady and I didnt want to swim to shore. Also gets dark pretty early these days. I think I am ready for the water!!!!
Just need a good day for it! :wink:
