VANCOUVER ISLAND WINDTALK

I know I should know this, but I am more familiar with 5.0 and 4.5 conditions, and I don't want to guess. I am trying to help a friend choose a winter kiting destination. This place gets @ 20 days a month of 6.5 winds or better.

Any comments welcome!

How about 12 knots...14M kite !!!

Well, a 6.5 sail should be equivalent to 12-14 m traditional kite. 6.5 conditions are probably 13-14 knots on a biggish board to get planing even with some good pumping, I think. 20 days of this or better in a month sounds like a great kiting destination!

ehhhh.... I have no prob on my 5.5 when kiters are out on 12, so to me it looks more like 16 m

Thanks for the replies. So I take it is approx. 12-14 knots, which for me would definately be 16m if I had one (11-17 knots being ideal 16m for me).

Kites are getting better and better in terms of their range, which means that sometimes you will have similar sized people out and doing well on 16's, 14's and 12's. Sometimes, even with C kites, guys will be doing fairly well on 10's and 16's at the same time. So, wind speed is crital for me to understand the equivalencies.

6.5 = solid 15 knots. 14 or 16m kite depending on skill, weight (18m even) and board.
